Case IH 9250 AFS and MacDon FD241 Header

The combinable harvest for many growers this summer has been the easiest but, equally, most challenging for many years. With little to no rain for months leading up to harvest, cereal crops have struggled to produce the yields they would normally. On the flip side, the settled warm weather has enabled them to be harvested with relative ease in record time on lots of farms throughout the UK.

H A Simpson and Son, who farm 900 hectares between Scarborough and Loftus on the Yorkshire and Cleveland coastlines, enjoyed a largely trouble-free harvest this year thanks to the increased output of their 2020 Case IH 9250 AFS Axial Flow combine that first appeared in Farm Machinery Journal in 2022.

“We chose to upgrade the 9250’s header from the standard 10.7m (35ft) 3050 series to a 12.5m (41ft) MacDon FD2 Flex Draper header and it has been a revelation” says combine operator Chris Baines.

“It has significantly improved crop flow to the 9250’s 2.6m long, 76.2m diameter rotor and allowed us harvest our diverse rotation of combinable crops much more efficiently this Summer.”
