Combinable Harvest Highlights - July 12, 2025
On July 12th I spent a fantastic day photographing a whole host of modern combine harvesters at work in the Vale of Pickering and on the Yorkshire Wolds. These included the Makin family’s impressive 415hp six straw walker New Holland CX8.80 and contractor Richard Dowson’s twin rotor New Holland CR8.90 that’s powered by a 12.9 litre 544hp FPT Cursor 13 engine. You can read all about the 50-year history of New Holland’s twin rotor separation system in the latest issue of Farm Machinery Journal. Later in the day, I also caught up with Sledmere Estate’s mighty Claas Lexion 8700 that’s fitted with the German firm’s advanced 10.8m Convio header and Birdsall Estate’s enormous 700hp John Deere X9 1100 that’s equipped with a pair of 3.51m long and 61cm diameter rotors.
